Brisbane’s Most Iconic Caravan Park Closes Its Doors

One of Brisbane’s most iconic caravan parks has closed its doors, once accommodating carnival operators for The Ekka but now the park is selling up.

The Newmarket Gardens Caravan Park had been operational in the heart of Brisbane for over 60 years, opening in 1957.

“The caravan park welcomed thousands of holiday goers to Brisbane and was a landmark many travelers loved visiting. It wasn’t an easy decision to close the park, but the owners say it is time,” said Lee Hames, Chief Operating Officer for Lloyds Auctions.

The decision to close the park was considered for a long period of time, but ultimately the owners have decided to move onto the next chapter of their lives.

The grounds were used by operators of Brisbane’s yearly Ekka Show, who have supported the park right from its beginnings.

The current custodians decided to keep the doors open for one last Ekka this year to support the Ekka one last time however unfortunately due to COVID, the Ekka did not go ahead as planned.

“It is sad to see the park close, but we are honoured to be assisting the current custodians move forward into the next chapter of their lives,” continued Mr. Hames.

There are many cabins available, caravans and a golf cart, ride on mower, plus much more on offer through Lloyds Auctions. The cabins are fitted with an assortment of 2 bedrooms, 1 bedroom and 6 bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms and are all in great condition and ready to be used by the new custodians.
